Message big difference in factory paint. Toyota is about the best way with their system they transitioned to in 2006 however based on the slow curing of the water evaporation over the quicker curing of the solvent based paints mean that manufacturers have has to juggle processes, additives and finishing steps for cost and time effective painting.

Go to a new car show and find a manufacturer that has a production car with no orange peel in the paint. You won't find one. Buddy's brand new 2012 GTR had orange peel from factory and it is one of the most rigorously finished production cars made.
